John became a member of the SWLA 1n1987. He has illustrated many books and journals, including work for the RSPB, BBC Wildlife magazine (illustrating the New Moon page for five years), Downland Wildlife with John Burton, Badgers with Ernest Neal, Heathlands with James Parry and work for British Wildlife magazine.

John paints mainly with watercolour, but also acrylics and increasingly with oils. Landscape through the seasons and it’s wild inhabitants is a recurring theme, but he also paints more intimate studies. Although birds feature prominently John is a keen mammal watcher - never tiring of badgers. Although some work is studio based, he is happiest in the field making studies, sketching the landscape and  hoping some wildlife will come along.
